Neil Anderson lives and works in East Devon, where
he studied Art and Design at Exeter College and Fine Art at Plymouth
University. He has recently finished an intensive year studying portrait
sculpture at the Hatherly School of Fine Art, Chelsea.
Prior to embarking on an artistic career, Neil worked
for twenty five years in various aspects of psychiatry, spending much of the
latter years helping adults with mental health problems. This experience of
working alongside men with issues of violence, anger and emotional conflict has
influenced his art, and his knowledge of both human emotions and anatomy is
evident in his figurative work.
Neil’s work has been described as ‘melding
classicism with modernism’. Influences range from Greek and Roman sculpture to
Giacomitti and Marino Marini, Jacob Epstein and Elisabeth Frink.
