Sue Blagden

Sue was a student at Birmingham Art College, specialising in Pottery and has since worked in a number of different situations teaching Art and Pottery. For the last twenty years before retirement, she worked with visually impaired young people at Queen Alexandra College Birmingham. She learned a great deal from the students there, who had little or no sight, about the sense of touch, both in the form of the pot and the surface quality of the clay.

In 2009 Sue and her husband made a brilliant decision to move from Birmingham, to Devon. She is fascinated by the beautiful colours, textures and shapes in this locality and these qualities have influenced her shapes and choice of glazes. Sue uses latex resist painted onto biscuit clay making patterns based on nature, often influenced by William Morris designs. The pots are then dipped into glaze and the latex is peeled off before firing.
