Bicentennial Celebrations

Celebrating 200 years of helping professional artists, the AGBI was founded in 1814 by a group of distinguished painters, sculptors and architects. From the beginning its purpose has been to provide a fund for professional artists and their families, who need some help and financial support during illness or injury.

This screenprint was published to celebrate the 200 years of AGBI, each square has been individually designed by some of the greatest living artists working today.

Millions of pounds have been distributed in 200 years and today the calls on the AGBI's resources are greater than ever. From its foundation the AGBI has enjoyed Royal Patronage.

It has always been administered by a Council of practising artists and the lists of Presidents, Honorary Officers and Council Members includes many of the distinguished names of the period. JMW Turner gave his time generously and dedication as Honorary Treasurer. Sir John Everett Millais PRA worked tirelessly for the Institution and John Constable RA spent the last evening of his life on a task connected with the AGBI.

Here at Brook Gallery we work with many of the artist's currently involved with the AGBI.
