Born: 1925

Bernard Cheese

Through 1947-1950, Bernard Cheese studied at the Royal College of Art in London. He then taught printmaking at St Martin's School of Art and Design before becoming Senior Lecturer at Goldsmith's College, London. He now lives and works near Colchester.

He became interested in lithography, his favourite printing medium, through the influence of Edwin La Dell. His delicate use of colour does however lend itself to water-colour which is another of his preferred mediums.

Bernard delights in the shapes to be found in the landscape, but his subjects are often more diverse than this.

He has many of his works in both public and private collections including that of Her Majesty the Queen and the Contemporary Art Society although The Victoria and Albert Museum owns the largest public collection, representing over four decades in the career of this celebrated painter-printmaker.
