Wendy Bray

After graduating from art school in 1951
Wendy joined the prestigious Courtaulds
textile design studio, creating furnishing
and dress designs that suited the
adventurous, flourishing tastes of
post-war Britain.

While living in New York in the 70’s, she
attended a further course with the Art
Students League. This greatly influenced
the breadth and style of her work that
still remains her signature today.

Working from her studio at home, Wendy
now creates both new designs and revisits
many of the classic designs in her extensive
collection. Designers and manufacturers
are reworking and revitalising vintage work
to suit the contemporary idiom and Wendy
takes great pleasure in doing the same
with her early textile designs created in
the 50s.

Today her vintage and contemporary
designs have found multiple uses and
appear as rugs, book end-papers, limited
edition prints, wallpapers, social stationary,
and of course as fabrics.

The light playful touch and the grace
and flow of a past era is presented with
a contemporary interpretation enabled
by modern technology.
