On 5th July 2019 I awoke in Penally Abbey, Pembrokeshire, at 4:30 a.m.
and looked out over Carmarthen Bay. Twenty miles away due east, I
could see the high downland ridge of the Gower peninsula, which sits
behind the west facing Rhossili Beach.
The sun was rising fast but the range of greys in the pre-dawn twilight
were rich in watercolour and aquatint possibilities. The sun broke cover
at about 5:15 a.m. and it was all over.
