The ancient hamlet of Burnsall sits on the river, high in the
Wharfe Valley. The substantial stone bridge and coaching
inn indicates a settlement of former importance.
Surrounding slopes show evidence of Roman and earlier
occupation with many cultivation terraces and field walls.
