Bernard Dunstan RA

Bernard Dunstan studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art before progressing to the Slade School of Fine Art from 1939 until 1941. He then went on to teach at various prestigious art schools in the UK including the Camberwell School of Art and the West of England School of Art in Bristol.

He is now a Senior Member of the Royal Academy and has published many books on his subject including titles 'Learning to Paint' and 'Painting Methods of the Impressionists' whose influence can be seen throughout his work.

In 1993, Sheeran Lock Fine Art Consultants commissioned Bernard Dunstan RA and the Master Printer Stanley Jones of The Curwen Studio to produce a series of lithographs which, along with preparatory studies and printing materials, would form a didactic exhibition to promote greater understanding and awareness of the art and craft of lithography. Bernard Dunstan chose as his subject different aspects at the Royal Academy of Arts today, and completed his work on the four new colour lithographs in November 1994: Musicians in the Courtyard; Private View; Friends Room and The Royal Academy Life Room.

He now lives and works in Kew, Surrey.
