In 2014 we left Whitby Harbour very early and headed south with the
ambition to see the Bempton Cliffs bathed in morning sunlight.
The sun lit up the relentless industry and feeding frenzy of the gannet
colony which inhabits these North Sea cliffs.
The grotesque Crab Rock with its natural arch, white with guano and
nests, seems to be the epicentre of this colony. Many other species also
thrive on these cliffs, one of the most important seabird sanctuaries in
Europe.
