The sea routes off the north Norfolk Coast are known as the Brancaster

Roads and were for centuries, part of a trade network linking the

eastern settlements of the British Isles with Flanders and the Baltic.

The Hanseatic League, the Germanic trade network prominent in the

14th and 15th centuries had offices in Kings Lynn, 20 miles to the west.
