Out on the tidal sand bars north of Holkham Hall, the morning

sunlight picks out the tens of thousands of migrating seabirds that feed

on this rich food sanctuary.

The tidal flats stretch the whole length of the north Norfolk coast and

have been a conservation area for nearly 100 years.

In the 18th century the Holkham Estate introduced wheat farming

and many other agricultural innovations to this area of Norfolk.
